David, 23, lives at home with his mother, father, and four younger sisters, who range in age from four to 18 years old. His father works as a driver for a popular fast food chain and his mother cares for the home. David is in his seventh year of college at the Universidad Tecnológica de El Salvador, where he is studying industrial engineering.

Davis has recently obtained a job related to his degree in engineering and will pursue that following his graduation this year.

We asked David to answer a few questions to help you get to know him better. Below are his responses!

What is an interesting fact that nobody knows about you?

“I had surgery on my foot when I was 14. I was getting out of the shower and I didn’t notice a needle on the ground. I stepped on it and it broke into three pieces, one of which got stuck in my foot. I had to spend two weeks at home without getting up from my bed.”

Describe an achievement or memorable moment that you have had so far this year.

“Passing all of my classes last semester and taking a summer class because this is the first time I’ve ever taken a summer class.”

What has been your greatest challenge for this year?

“My greatest challenge for this school year was that on the fourth Physics test, my instructor changed the testing format and nothing seemed to be in our favor. I thought that my whole class and I were going to fail physics but despite all the changes almost all of us passed.”

What is your community service project?

“Our service project involves recycling plastic bottles, cans, and glass bottle and we do it every Saturday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Seven of us do it on Saturdays and the other four group members do it at the school from Monday to Friday in the mornings.”

What would you say if you could speak face-to-face with your sponsors?

“If I had the opportunity to meet my sponsors, I would ask them what motivated them to help me go to school.”
