Abelardo, 19, is in his second year of college at the Universidad Catolica de El Salvador where he studies Tourism Management and Development. He lives in El Espino with his mother, a homemaker, and younger sister. His father came to the U.S. six years ago and found work in a supermarket to support his family.

One of Abelardoís most admirable characteristics is his love of animals. He diligently cares for his birds, cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and pigs.

Abelardo walks to school each morning, where classes begin at 7:00. He is currently studying Math, Language, English, Social Studies, Sciences, Work Skills Development, and Computing. School ends at 3 p.m., after which Abelardo generally goes to church. Once home, he does homework, watches TV, and eats dinner with his family.

We asked Abelardo to answer a few questions to help you get to know him better. Below are his responses!

What are some of your professional aspirations?

My goal is to finish high school and go to college to study languagesĖEnglish, French and Portuguese.

Tell us about your community service project.

My community service project is called Instilling Values in our Youth, and itís important to me because through it, I can help kids and learn more about practicing good values.

What is your favorite music?

I like reggaeton because itís happy-sounding and it helps me relax and de-stress. I like romantic rock because itís really beautiful music and it expresses great emotion. Lastly, I like bachata because itís happy music and I like to dance to it.

What is something surprising about you that only a few people know?

Something people donít know about me would be that I am very sentimental when it comes to people and animals. I love and am amazed by animals and nature.
